Catching up since the last onions update
Before the new years, my primary focus was to just see how the onion seedlings were holding up by bringing them inside at night, leaving them outside/in the window during the brutal cold periods and even taking them out for the warmer weather and the rains.
Recently it actually rained a lot in my area. (4 onion seedlings in high light)

This photo and the next one are still after the first rain (4 onion seedlings in low light)

As I mentioned, it rained a lot recently and I left the onions outside more than I usually did because the temps were not below freezing. The next pictures are after the second rain during the daylight. So before these pictures were taken, the seedlings were outdoors during the day and during the night for warmer weather, colder weather, and a total of two rainfalls, one warm and one freezing.

After bringing the seedlings inside on January 1, they have spend about a good 72 hours outside. (2 onion seedlings after being inside again)
4 onion seedlings after being inside again. And of course, there is tons of stuff randomly germinating in the pots. Weird!
More notes I have on progress so far
The onion seedlings are most definitely growing, which ultimately means that they are looking good to hold on until the soil warms up again. Of course, the pots are beginning to get weeds, so the soil is healthy and that’s out of the way to worry about! Additionally, one of the onions is really growing fast but I am impressed with the seedlings ability to stay alive with such brutal cold temps. I really expected something like this to freeze out and stop showing such vibrant signs of plant growth. In any event, you aren’t always guaranteed to grow a great crop or flower even if you have a ton of experience. There are always roadblocks that I have so far experienced in my first full year of professional gardening. I don’t know if I am going to be making onions a goal this year over what I tried last year, because I really think that I want to have more to harvest of what I eat the most like tomatoes and Brussel sprouts.
Because the weather is beginning to get cold again, I figured just bring them back inside like anyone would do or say in any event. The best thing I learned so far in my year of gardening experience is also that if the plant is doing good, keep doing what you’re doing. It’s definitely easy to try too hard to get faster results or something and end up losing your plants or your interest. I’m happy to bring you this update on the positive progress of the seedlings, and with so much more to prepare for, stay tuned for more gardening posts!
